BACB Certification Examinations

BACB Certification Examinations: The purpose of the nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization known as the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® (BACB®) is to address the requirements of governments, behavior analysts, and others who use behavior-analytic services in terms of professional certification.

In order to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA), or Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), one may take one of three exams offered by the BACB.

Examination Outlines

The questions on the BACB test are of the multiple-choice kind. Only one of four potential responses is accurate for each question. There is a time limit for the test that candidates must adhere to. Here are the specifics of each BACB test:

What to Expect on Examination Day

In order to familiarize themselves with computer-based examinations, applicants should take the Pearson VUE practice test before attempting an exam in a testing facility.

The following are some general guidelines when taking an examination in person:

  • Just to make sure you have enough time to check in, we recommend that candidates go to the testing site around half an hour before your scheduled examination time. Security precautions including taking a picture, scanning a palm vein, and getting an electronic signature are all part of this procedure.
To enter the testing room, candidates are required to provide TWO pieces of valid identification. The applicant’s first and last name on both forms of identification must match the one on file with BACB completely. Entering a nickname on your BACB account or using a last name that is different from your marriage certificate are both examples of situations when a name discrepancy might prohibit you from taking the test. In the event of a name conflict supported by a marriage license, Pearson VUE will not provide an exemption.
  • The applicant must ensure that both forms of identification are up-to-date and bear their signature. Photo and signature-required official government-issued identification (such as a driver’s license or state/national ID) is required for principal use of this service. One kind of secondary identification that is required but not required to include a picture is a signed credit card that is identical to the government-issued form of identity.

All exam locations provide lockers where you may put your personal belongings.

Examination Scheduling

An Authorization to Test (ATT) letter is sent to a candidate via email after they have been accepted to take a BACB test.

Candidates may access their Pearson VUE accounts or get in touch with the customer care center to change, postpone, or cancel their examinations. Candidates who need special accommodations for the exam will get instructions on how to arrange their test in a separate email from the BACB.

The scheduling procedure allows candidates to see the availability of in-person appointments. The BACB cannot ensure that a candidate’s preferred examination day or time will be available, since appointments are dependent on Pearson VUE’s availability.
