How to Prepare for the RBT Exam: When getting ready for the RBT exam, two questions that people often ask are “Is the RBT exam hard?” and “What should I use to pass the RBT exam on the first try?”
Based on my almost decade of experience as an RBT classroom instructor, I have identified four essential resources that can help you succeed on the RBT board test. The difference between passing and failing the RBT test is how well you prepare for it.
A review of the material, a sample test, flashcards based on the SAFMEDS framework, and instructional videos are all things I would suggest. You have a much better chance of passing the RBT test if you use all four of these tools. Read on to learn why.
Use an RBT Exam Study Guide
For the registered behaviour technician test, I don’t think there is anything more important than learning the terms and definitions on the RBT job list. Most of the questions on the RBT test are about how to use what you’ve learnt. In other words, you will have to use what you’ve learnt in real life.
These questions are a lot easier to answer once you know the terms and what they mean. To give you an example, you should be able to tell the difference right away if the test asks you to measure frequency or length. You only need to use what you know about frequency to answer the question. People who want to be RBTs often make the mistake of not knowing what the terms mean and trying to figure out the questions as they go.
You’ll lose track of time, move more slowly, and feel stressed out. We have an RBT task list study guide that was made by a BCBA and has everything that you might see on the test.
Do a practice test for the RBT.
Next, you should take an RBT practice test after you have learnt your meanings. It doesn’t matter how well you know the terms of applied behaviour analysis; you still need to know how to use them in real life.
Not being prepared for all of the application questions is the most typical reason individuals give me when they don’t pass the test. Taking practice tests for the RBT will help you feel less surprised when you see application questions.
For instance, if you are asked to describe a time when differential reinforcement was used and you need to say what kind of differential reinforcement was used, you should prepare some DRO, DRA, and DRI practice questions. A BCBA made the answer keys for our three full RBT practice tests.
Use SAFMEDS Flashcards
Say, All, Fast, Minute, Everyday, Shuffle is what SAFMEDS stands for. People studying for the BCBA test are more likely to use these, but that doesn’t mean people who want to become RBTs should stay away from them.
The ideas behind SAFMEDS came from applied behaviour analysis. Your objective is to enhance your fluency in the use of terms and definitions. You have one minute to say as many of the terms and their definitions out loud as you can.
You are more likely to pass the RBT board test if you work faster with SAFMEDS. Based on our RBT test study guide, we have already made a set of SAFMED notes for you.
Watch Videos of the RBT Exam on YouTube
Readers and viewers alike can learn better in different ways. I think that doing both is the best way to prepare for the RBT test. RBT YouTube movies should always be used to study for a test, no matter what.
Videos give you immediate feedback on things you might not understand. The RBT YouTube videos we have cover a lot of ground, from words to practice questions. At a later point in your RBT journey, we also provide films to help you measure your ability.
How Does One Pass the RBT Exam?
The RBT test has 85 questions, and 10 of them are not graded. You will have 90 minutes to finish the RBT test., the BACB doesn’t say what the number must be. A passing score is determined by the BACB using their own technique that is based on the test material.
Most of the time, you want to get at least 68 questions right on the RBT exam or 80% of the questions on the test.
